Step 28 To Selling a Home: Hire a Cleaning Person

While your home is only required to be left in broom-swept clean condition, it’s a common courtesy to either clean the home yourself AFTER you’ve moved all of your stuff out or have a cleaning company come and clean it. Even if you had the home professionally cleaned prior to the listing photos being taken, if you've still be living in your home, chances are it may need a refresh.

In an ideal world, you would move out completely and have your home cleaned prior to the buyer's final walk-through, which usually occurs the day before closing or the morning of closing. However, we know that it can sometimes be difficult to make all of the moving parts line up perfectly in the days before closing. It's not unheard of to have a cleaning crew come first-thing in the morning on closing day, even if the buyer has already done their walk-through.

Think about it this way: it's such a nice breath of fresh air (literally) to walk into a sparkling clean home, and we would wish that for you when you move into your next house. Don't you want the buyers to have that happy, fresh-start feeling when they arrive at your home after closing?
